
Modular Summer Housing

The Şarköy Off-Grid Modular House is conceived as a compact, self-sufficient residence that combines modular construction, smart-building technologies, and a strong relationship with its natural setting. Located on a 340 m² hillside site, the house overlooks the Marmara Sea, with panoramic views extending toward the Marmara Islands in the distance.
The building is formed by six prefabricated container modules, each measuring 7 × 3 metres. Two modules are positioned side by side on each of the building’s three levels, creating a total enclosed area of 126 m². This modular system establishes a clear structural and spatial logic while offering advantages in fabrication, transportation, construction time, adaptability, and future expansion. The arrangement of the modules responds to the sloping terrain and creates a series of interconnected indoor and outdoor living spaces oriented toward the sea.
An infinity pool extends the main terrace visually toward the horizon, reinforcing the connection between the architecture, the landscape, and the Marmara Sea. The material palette combines exposed concrete with warm yellow sandstone surfaces, creating a contrast between the robust infrastructural base and the more tactile residential volumes above.
The project is planned as an experimental off-grid house in which architecture functions as an integrated technological system. Solar-energy production, battery storage, rainwater collection, grey-water recycling, energy-efficient climate control, environmental sensors, and intelligent home-management systems are explored as part of a coordinated sustainability strategy. A digital twin is also proposed to monitor the building’s energy consumption, water use, indoor environmental conditions, and operational performance in real time.
More than a conventional holiday house, the project is envisioned as a prototype for compact, modular, and technologically responsive living. It investigates how prefabricated construction, renewable-energy systems, smart-home technologies, and digital building management can be combined to create a resilient and largely self-sufficient dwelling within the Mediterranean landscape.
